Discerning Leadership

Rationale: Great teaching does not automatically translate into great leadership, yet teachers often move into leadership roles without truly understanding what it means to be a Catholic School leader. Over the course of this program, teachers or other Catholic School personnel will grow measurably more knowledgeable about key Catholic School leadership practices. This program will help develop educators' mindset with the information they need to lead. The foundation of the program is deepening knowledge, which leads to an environment conducive team spirit, peer learning, and community. This Catholic leadership "discernment journey" will be guided by experts in Catholic school practices, associated with CSAANYS and St. John's University School of Education.

 

Goal: The goal is to assist educators in discerning Catholic school leadership by introducing them to topics such as: managing difficult conversations, delivering effective feedback, school finance, mission, vision, & Catholic Identity, etc. We will create a statewide network of future school leaders to grow the ranks from within. The goal is to inspire and enrich teachers who are discerning leadership. Additionally, this program can support those leaders who have joined Catholic schools from other learning institutions, i.e., public schools.
